LIGHTING AS INTEGRATED DESIGN

In Kaunas, the King Mindaugas underground passage is redefined as more than a piece of infrastructure — a continuous, legible urban space, better connected to the city.

At MCI LIGHT, we approach this type of intervention as an opportunity to embed light into the very logic of the project, removing any unnecessary elements.

Here, light is not added. It is built into the architecture.

Integrated within the handrails, the lighting precisely defines the path, accompanies the user, and enhances spatial perception without visual noise.

The result is a clean and continuous experience, where the presence of light is felt, but its source almost disappears.

The intervention is resolved through Handrail Dot, specifically designed to integrate into linear architectural elements.

Its compact form allows us to work with complete discretion while ensuring:

Precise optical control
High lighting efficiency
Resistance in demanding urban environments
Simple and robust installation

By embedding light directly into the existing infrastructure, we eliminate the need for poles, floodlights, or additional elements — reducing visual impact while optimizing the system as a whole.

The project transforms the underground passage into a clearer, safer, and more comfortable space.

Lighting is no longer an added layer, but a tool for spatial clarity and orientation — aligned with a contemporary approach to urban design.
